Deuba faction files writ petition seeking halt to NC general convention process

KATHMANDU: The faction led by former Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court seeking an interim order to halt preparations for the party’s 15th General Convention.

Nepali Congress leader Min Bishwakarma said separate writ petitions have been filed on behalf of former president Deuba and then acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka. Legal practitioners representing both leaders filed the petitions at the Supreme Court.

The petitioners have sought an order to suspend the party’s schedule for holding the General Convention in October. The Deuba faction has argued that the convention-related process should not move forward while the jurisdictional dispute remains unresolved, particularly as the Supreme Court has already allowed the matter to be reconsidered.

The Nepali Congress has announced a schedule to hold its 15th General Convention in October. The dispute comes amid growing divisions within the party. The Deuba faction has opposed Gagan Thapa’s leadership and has called for the General Convention to be conducted under the existing party leadership.
