KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Udaya Shamsher Rana has urged the government to extend the deadline for mandatory land mapping at local levels, as required under the Land Use Act and its Regulations.
Speaking during Thursday’s House of Representatives session, Rana said the mapping work could not be completed on time and requested additional time from the government.
He noted that so far only 213 local bodies nationwide have completed the mapping process. The lawmaker highlighted that the procedure is particularly complex in urban areas, making it difficult to finish within the prescribed timeframe.
“When the deadline is short, it forces citizens to complete mapping and plot division under pressure,” Rana said. “This not only increases opportunities for corrupt practices but also creates problems for citizens and hampers revenue collection.”
Rana said the government should take necessary measures to ensure a smooth, transparent, and efficient system for land mapping and plot division.
