Home Minister’s resignation not needed: Communication Minister

KATHMANDU: The government’s spokesperson and Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, stated today that there is no need for the Home Minister to resign over the recent visit visa controversy.

During a press briefing at Singha Durbar to announce Cabinet decisions, Minister Gurung explained that there is no concrete evidence against the Home Minister, and no investigation process has begun.

He added that the Home Minister should be allowed to respond to the opposition’s concerns in Parliament. Gurung also expressed confidence that the issue would be resolved soon, as discussions among political parties are ongoing.

Minister Gurung also touched on other Cabinet decisions made on June 2.

He announced that one Nepal Army Major has been promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, and ten Lieutenant Colonels have been transferred. Additionally, the Cabinet accepted the resignation of one Lieutenant Colonel.

The Cabinet also approved Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan’s participation in a conference in China from June 11 to 13.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Finance Secretary was granted approval to attend the OPEC Fund Development Forum in Vienna, Austria, on June 17.

Regarding other matters, spokesperson Gurung reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making the Press Council more inclusive, though he noted that this has not been fully achieved yet due to various reasons.
