Agreement signed between two ministries for long-term management of drinking water



KATHMANDU: An agreement has been signed between the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation and the Ministry of Water Supply for the long-term management of drinking water.

Secretary at the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, Sarita Dawadi, and Secretary at the Ministry of Water Supply, Pramila Devi Bajracharya, signed the agreement today at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation and in the presence of Energy Minister Dipak Khadka and Water Supply Minister Pradeep Yadav.

As per the agreement, the Water Supply Ministry would carry out a study and research on development of equitable access to adequate, safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene service to all as well as on technology development related activities.

Similarly, the Energy Ministry would conduct activities related to long-term plan, sustainable development, protection, utilization and regulation of water resources, including water resources related study, research and technology.

It is expected that the agreement would help achieve the target of access of all citizens to safe drinking water forever.
A written agreement of both ministries would be needed to amend and expand the agreement signed for 10 years.

Director General of the Department of Water Resources and Irrigation, Sanjeev Baral, and Director General of Drinking Water and Sewerage Management, Ram Kumar Shrestha, among others were also present on the occasion.
