UML opens doors for returnees with strict condition on party policies and leadership

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel on Monday called on leaders who left the party to return, stressing that the only condition for returnees is agreement on party policies and leadership, with no room for disputes or controversies.

Speaking at a press interaction in Kathmandu, Pokharel said, “Coming home does not require anyone’s permission; the door is always open for our members to return.”

He added that responsibilities would be assigned based on capability, but anyone intending to disrupt party unity or challenge its leadership should refrain from returning.

Highlighting efforts for reintegration, Pokharel said the party has created a conducive environment for those willing to align with these principles. He also commented on former President Bidya Devi Bhandari, describing her as a neutral figure, with the party set to decide on her political engagement if she chooses to return to active politics.

Amid ongoing discussions of unity within the UML, the party has launched a “return home” campaign to encourage former leaders to rejoin, while those aspiring for leadership positions are invited to establish themselves through the upcoming general convention.
