‘Pothre Gurans’ in full bloom on Annapurna trek

BENI: The vibrant bloom of Pothre Gurans along the Annapurna I Base Camp trekking route in Annapurna Rural Municipality-4, Narchyang, has become a major attraction for both domestic and international tourists.

The scenic trail—known for its mountains, lakes, waterfalls, and breathtaking natural beauty—is now further enhanced by the blooming Pothre Gurans, which stretch in full display from Humkhola to Sunkhola. These flowers typically bloom from May to September, adding seasonal color to the trek.

According to botanist Kamal Maden, Pothre Gurans is a small, native species of rhododendron and one of the 33 species found in Nepal. This particular species can grow up to three meters tall.

Maden expressed concern over the declining population of Pothre Gurans, attributing it largely to forest fires and lack of conservation efforts.

Various shades of red, pink, white, and purple rhododendrons can be seen along the Annapurna route, making it a unique ecological and visual experience.

Maden emphasized the urgent need for concerned authorities to take action for the preservation of this rare and beautiful species.
