KMC Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain attends office and leaves for Singha Durbar

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Saroj Guragain returned to his office on Thursday after a four-and-a-half-month standoff, breaking through a city police cordon with the help of ward chairpersons and people’s representatives.

The office had been locked for months following directives from Mayor Balendra Sah. However, employees forcibly removed the lock after City Police Chief Rajunath Pandey refused to do so.

Guragain then entered his office and held a meeting with Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol before proceeding to Singha Durbar in a vehicle belonging to the Forest and Environment Department.

Ahead of Guragain’s arrival, Mayor Shah ordered city police to immobilize the vehicle he had been using by installing wheel locks.

Despite this, Guragain successfully made his way to the federal government complex, escalating tensions between the administrative and executive branches of the metropolitan city.
