KATHMANDU: Efforts to restore electricity services in flood-affected areas are being carried out at a rapid pace, according to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).
According to the NEA, the 33 kV line supplying Pyuthan from Arghakhanchi is expected to resume operation by 7 pm Sunday. This will restore electricity services to most areas of Pyuthan, including the district headquarters.
Meanwhile, repair work is underway on a damaged conductor at Murkuti in Dang along the Lamahi-Jhimruk 132 kV transmission line. Although continuous rainfall has affected the repair work, the line is expected to resume operation by 10 pm Sunday. Once the 132 kV line is restored, electricity services will resume fully in Pyuthan and in Libang, the headquarters of Rolpa, and other eastern parts of the district.
A technical team has been deployed since early Sunday morning to repair the electricity network in Holeri in western Rolpa. One section was found to have five spans of conductor and poles brought down, while trees have damaged poles and wires at four other locations. Electricity service in the area is expected to resume by Monday.
The line supplying Thawang in Rolpa has suffered significant damage. A full assessment is still pending as blocked roads have prevented staff from reaching the site in time.
Similarly, the line from Salya to eastern Rukum has been disrupted under the Salya Distribution Centre. Poles are believed to have been swept away by landslides, and the line is expected to be repaired and restored by Monday.
Meanwhile, electricity is currently being supplied to Rukumkot, the headquarters of Rukum East, through the local Rapti Hydropower project.
