Ward office operates from road in protest over blacktopping delay

KANCHANPUR: In a unique form of protest, Arjun Saud, ward chair of Krishnapur Municipality-2, has relocated his ward office operations to the roadside, demanding the long-overdue blacktopping of the Bunk-Nile-Budar road.

Since Sunday, Saud has been providing public services from a table set up at the entry point of the road to pressure both contractors and the Infrastructure Development Office into action.

Despite a signed contract, blacktopping work has remained stalled. Saud vowed to continue operating from the road until work begins, stating, “There has been no progress. We had to resort to black banners and street protests to pressure the authorities.”

Local residents, too, have expressed frustration. “The dusty road has made walking difficult,” said Ramnath, a resident.

Yogendra Adhikari, chief of the Infrastructure Development Office, Kanchanpur, acknowledged the delay but assured that contractors have been directed to begin work within a week. “The contractors will not start immediately, but we have issued a letter urging them to begin as soon as possible,” he said.

With growing public pressure, it remains to be seen whether authorities will finally address the long-pending roadwork.
