General Secretary Sharma: Pushing back regular General Convention could lead to a Special Convention

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma has said that if the party fails to hold its regular general convention in Poush (mid-December to mid-January) as decided, it may result in the need for a special convention.

Speaking to journalists after the Central Committee meeting held at the party’s central office in Sanepa on Monday, Sharma stated that since the date for the regular general convention has already been set, any attempt to postpone it would trigger a situation requiring a special convention.

He also reminded party members that the signatures collected demanding a special convention are still safely kept at the central office. Sharma added that since Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba has already expressed his intention to step down through the regular convention, he should not be dragged into a special convention.

Sharma stressed that the party must prepare not only for the regular general convention but also for the upcoming elections. He said the amended party statute will better accommodate youth and urged them to remain ready to take leadership roles at all levels.
