16 people fall ill after consuming wild mushrooms in Makawanpur and Chitwan



CHITWAN: A total of 16 people have fallen ill in Makawanpur and Chitwan districts after consuming wild mushrooms, with two reported to be in critical condition.

According to the Bagmati Province Police Office in Hetauda, residents in rural parts of both districts became sick after eating cooked mushrooms that had grown near their homes.

In Okare, Makawanpurgadhi Rural Municipality-8 of Makawanpur, 61-year-old Bir Bahadur Titung and his 8-year-old son Basanta Titung fell ill after consuming mushrooms from their own garden.

They were taken to Sancho Hospital in Hetauda-1 for treatment around 1:30 PM on Saturday. The hospital has reported their condition as moderate.

Similarly, in Lamagaun of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-29, Chitwan, five people—including four members of the same family—fell ill after eating wild mushrooms.

They were admitted to Bharatpur Government Hospital at 6 PM on Saturday. The condition of Dhan Bahadur and Manmaya Gurung is critical, while the others are in moderate condition.

In another incident in Korak, Rapti Municipality-11, Chitwan, six members of the same family also became ill after eating wild mushrooms.

They were admitted to Bharatpur Government Hospital at 11 PM on Saturday. All are reported to be in moderate condition.

Police have urged the public to be cautious about consuming wild mushrooms, which can be highly toxic.
