Man eater tiger in Makawanpur captured

KATHMANDU: The tiger responsible for the death of 72-year-old Kanchhi Maya Rumba in Manahari Rural Municipality, Makawanpur, has been captured.

A joint effort involving four elephants and technical teams from Chitwan and Parsa National Parks successfully brought the tiger under control on Tuesday evening.

Rumba was attacked and killed late Sunday night while cutting grass near her home in Basantapur Gumbatol, Manahari-5.

The tiger also caused further havoc on Monday morning, entering a goat shed in Basantapur and killing seven goats, heightening fear among the local residents.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Shyam Aryal, the tiger was located and captured using dart technology in Sukaurakhola, Basantapur, Manahari-5, around 7 pm on Tuesday.

The tiger has been taken to Parsa National Park for further management.

Manahari has long faced challenges with wildlife incursions due to its proximity to buffer forests of Chitwan and Parsa National Parks.

Incidents of tiger, elephant, and other wildlife attacks are a recurrent issue, often resulting in loss of life and property.

Efforts continue to mitigate human-wildlife conflicts in the area, but recurring incidents underline the need for sustainable solutions to ensure the safety of both residents and wildlife.
