KATHMANDU: As many as 20 individuals across various parts of the country have tested positive for cholera as of July 30 this year.

Dr. Prakash Budhathoki, Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population, confirmed that the cases have been reported from Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Kailali districts.

Dr. Budhathoki attributed the rise in cholera cases to unsafe drinking water, poor ecological hygiene, and the impact of flooding and landslides on water and sanitation infrastructure.

The disease may have spread due to contaminated water following recent monsoon rains.

To prevent further spread, doctors recommend maintaining proper hygiene, consuming only clean drinking water, and ensuring good sanitation practices.

Cholera symptoms include diarrhea, nausea, dehydration, yellow urine, low blood pressure, and sunken eyes.

Dr. Budhathoki warned that if these symptoms are not treated promptly, up to 50 percent of patients could succumb to the disease.
