Seven govt offices face power cut for unpaid dues

GODAWARI: In a bid to recover outstanding dues, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Dhangadhi, has initiated the disconnection of power lines for users with long-pending electricity tariffs.

The Dhangadhi Electricity Distribution Centre has taken steps to cut power lines for government offices and individual consumers who have consistently neglected paying their electricity bills despite multiple reminders.

As part of this effort, the NEA has disconnected power lines for 253 users in Dhangadhi and Attariya, with the total outstanding amount reaching Rs 15.34 million.

Mithilesh Kumar Goyal, Chief of the Distribution Centre Dhangadhi, reported that 180 consumers settled their tariffs following the power disconnection, resulting in a recovery of Rs 7.83 million in the past month.

Seven government offices, including the Land Revenue Office, Survey, and Road departments, have faced power disconnection due to unpaid electricity bills.

These offices collectively owe Rs 602,607, and only Rs 148,640 has been recovered after the disconnection, according to Chief Goyal.

The Dhangadhi Electricity Distribution Centre serves more than 79,000 users, and it has emphasized its commitment to continue disconnecting the lines of users failing to pay their electricity bills promptly.

According to electricity bye-laws, if dues remain unpaid even after the 60th day of meter reading, the power line will be cut off.

There is also a provision to blacklist consumers who do not clear their dues for six months after the line disconnection, extending the recovery process.
