KATHMANDU: Rajendra Mahato, Chairman of the Rastriya Mukti Party, has expressed concern that the arrest of Rabi Lamichhane, involved in a cooperative case, could result in either revenge or political bargaining.

Issuing a statement, Mahato called for a fair judicial investigation, emphasizing that all parties accused should be held accountable.

He stated, “The Lamichhane case deserves a thorough and just investigation.”

The Rastriya Mukti Party of Nepal is confident that the government will conduct a proper inquiry and that the court will make decisions based on evidence and facts, he stated.

“We are closely monitoring the situation alongside the Nepali public, who feel that laws are being misused by those in power,” Mahato stated.

He noted that the law is often wielded as a weapon against opposition members and rivals, allowing those in power to escape accountability and gain unfair advantages.

He pointed out the alarming embezzlement of over a trillion rupees from ordinary savers by large cooperative organizations nationwide.

“Shouldn’t the government prioritize punishing those responsible for this embezzlement and ensuring the return of savers’ funds?” he questioned.

He also demanded action against those involved in cooperative fraud, which he claims has been overlooked by the ruling political party for too long.

Mahato further criticized the lack of accountability regarding various corruption cases, including Giribandhu Tea Estate, widebody plane purchase, Lalita Niwas land grap, and the Bhutanese refugee case, asking, “When will the government provide answers and take responsibility?”
