Bar President claims Judicial Council is attempting to suppress criticism

KATHMANDU: Gopal Krishna Ghimire, President of the Nepal Bar Association, has alleged that the Judicial Council is trying to prosecute him to cover up its own weaknesses.

During a press conference at the Bar Association on Monday, Ghimire stated that the Judicial Council is preparing to take action for contempt of court against him for speaking out against its arbitrary conduct.

He pointed out that when the report from Judge Harikrishna Karki highlighted corruption within the judiciary, the Judicial Council retaliated against the Bar for raising the issue.

Ghimire affirmed his readiness to face any legal challenges, taking responsibility for his statements. He stressed the Bar would not be intimidated by any actions from the Judicial Council and vowed that the Bar’s legal battle would continue until the judiciary is cleansed.
