KATHMANDU: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak announced that the government will establish a separate bureau dedicated to investigating financial crimes more effectively.

Speaking briefly with journalists at the Ministry in Singha Durbar today, Minister Lekhak emphasized the need for a specialized bureau due to the recent rise in financial crimes.

He also mentioned that the bill related to the Police Act will be tabled in parliament following cabinet approval.

Additionally, the Armed Police Force Act is being finalized and will soon be sent to the Council of Ministers.

“We are finalizing the draft of the Police Act to address the outdated laws governing police institutions,” Lekhak stated, adding that the government respects the Supreme Court’s decision on petitions filed by some police officers.

He further clarified that the government submitted a vacate application because the Supreme Court’s interim order did not align with the government’s principles.

Lekhak assured that he has prioritized implementing the Supreme Court’s directive to include specific provisions from the Regulation in the Act since assuming ministerial responsibilities.
