Bharat falls short in Paris Paralympics



KATHMANDU: Bharat Singh Mahat was defeated today in the K-44 category of taekwondo (U-58 kg) at the Paris Paralympics 2024.

In the Round of 16 match held at the Grand Palais in Paris, France, Bharat lost to Japan’s Mitsuya Tanaka with a score of 19-3.

Tanaka is ranked fifth in the world, while Bharat holds the 57th position in the global rankings.

Meanwhile, medal hopeful Palesha Gobardhan will compete tomorrow in the women’s U-57 kg weight group, also in the K-44 category.

In addition to Bharat and Palesha, three other athletes from Nepal are participating in the Paralympics.

Swimmer Bhim Bahadur Kumal will compete in the men’s 50m freestyle in the S9 category.

Bharat and Bhim were selected for the Paralympics through wild card entries, while Palesha secured her spot by successfully qualifying through the selection stage.
