Campaign objects to Chinese Ambassador’s threats to journalists

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Ekta Abhiyan has condemned the ‘threat’ made to journalist Gajendra Budhathoki by the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song.

The organization issued a statement denouncing the incident.

Rastriya Ekta Abhiyan Nepal’s central coordinator, Binay Yadav, stated, “I believe that the action of the ambassador is wrong and a violation of diplomatic recognition and freedom of expression.”

He expressed concern over a foreign diplomat attempting to intimidate a respected journalist.

The statement requests that the Chinese embassy address this issue seriously and ensure it does not recur.

Journalist Budhathoki received a ‘threatening’ reply from Ambassador Song on the social network ‘X’ regarding a loan taken for the construction of Pokhara Airport.

A few days ago, Budhathoki posted that the loan for the Pokhara Airport carries a 2 percent interest rate, but he claimed it was actually 5 percent.

Responding to the post on Tuesday night, Ambassador Song stated that it was the biggest lie he had ever seen. He replied, “This is public information, yet you dared to lie about it.”
