Nepal braces for heavy rain; 20 districts on high alert



KATHMANDU: Heavy rain is forecasted over the next three days, prompting the Flood Forecasting Division to issue a cautionary advisory.

As rainfall increases, the flow of various rivers across the country is expected to rise significantly.

The Division has identified several rivers categorized as medium, high, and very high risk.

Notably, the Narayani River is expected to be at high risk on Friday and very high risk on Saturday.

Similarly, the Kankai River will face high risk on Saturday, with medium risk expected at other times.

The Kamala River will also be at high risk on Friday and medium risk on Saturday, while the Bagmati River will see high risk on and very high risk on Saturday.

Additional rivers, such as the Rapti Rajaiya, will have a medium risk level, the West Rapti Kusum is anticipated to have moderate risk.

The Flood Forecasting Division has warned that water levels in these rivers and their tributaries could reach dangerous thresholds, necessitating heightened vigilance in the coastal areas adjacent to these rivers over the next three days.

This weather system is expected to weaken by October 31.

As a precaution, the Weather Forecasting Division has issued a high alert for 20 districts that are particularly at risk, including Saptari, Udaypur, Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautuhat, Bara, Parsa, Chitwan, Makwanpur, Tanahun, Nawalparasi East, Nawalparasi West, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Palpa, Syangja, and Parbat.
