Nepal is ready to contribute more to world peace: PM Oli

NEW YORK: Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli, addressing the 79th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York, expressed Nepal’s readiness to enhance its contributions to world peace and security as the largest contributor of troops to UN peacekeeping operations.

Leading the Nepali delegation in New York, Prime Minister Oli delivered his speech on Thursday.

He called upon the global community to unite for peace, sustainable development, and the advancement of human dignity, emphasizing the importance of leaving no one behind for current and future generations.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Oli outlined the challenges and progress Nepal has faced in establishing peace following its armed conflict.

He noted that his government has recently enacted a law on transitional justice.

“The current government, formed through collaboration between two major political parties, is committed to promoting economic transformation for the inclusive and equitable prosperity of the Nepali people while maintaining stability,” Prime Minister Oli stated.

He reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to strengthening close, cordial, and constructive relations with neighboring countries and others based on mutual respect, sovereign equality, territorial integrity, non-interference in internal affairs, and peaceful coexistence.

Additionally, Prime Minister Oli emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict through dialogue between the two parties.

He highlighted that Nepal aims to be upgraded from an underdeveloped country by 2026 and to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

He also stressed that Nepal, despite its minimal carbon footprint, is affected by the emissions of developed countries and should receive benefits in terms of climate justice.
