KATHMANDU: Members of the House of Representatives (HoR) have called on the government to address several pressing issues, including the increasing frequency of landslides, floods, and traffic accidents.
They have demanded free treatment for survivors and better rehabilitation facilities.
During today’s session of the lower house, Sushila Thing highlighted the destruction caused by heavy rains on August 23 in the Hayu settlement of Sindhuli.
The rains demolished five houses and displaced 15 families.
Thing called for adequate compensation for the losses, proper rehabilitation in safer areas, and support for survivors’ livelihoods.
Janardan Sharma emphasized the urgent need for measures to address the growing loss of lives and property due to monsoon-related disasters and road accidents.
He also urged the government to investigate the cause of earth fissures in Salyan, which emerged after last year’s Jajarkot earthquake.
Amresh Kumar Singh questioned the responsibility for frequent traffic accidents, querying whether it lies with the government, traffic police, or the Department of Transport.
He stressed the importance of improving road conditions to mitigate these accidents.
Shanti BK expressed concern over the increasing cases of violence against women both domestically and abroad, asserting that the situation indicates a broader issue of women’s safety.
Ganesh Parajuli and Shiba Nepali joined the call for government action on the rising number of road casualties in the country.
During the zero hour, Bhagbati Chaudhary voiced worries about the safety of citizens amid a surge in crime.
Meena Tamang raised concerns over the alleged killing of Mamta Kafle by her spouse in the United States.
Mangal Prasad Gupta highlighted the challenges faced by people due to floods and landslides in various regions.
Yogendra Mandal and Rana Kumar Balampaki Magar urged the government to focus on improving the education system from the school level.
Additionally, Ramhari Khatiwada, Roshan Karki, Laxmi Tiwari, Lalbir Chaudhary, Leeladevi Limbu, Leelanath Shrestha, Lekhnath Dahal, Bikram Pandey, Bijula Rayamajh, Rajendra Bajgain, Rukmini Rana Baraili, Ram Kumar Rai, and Ramkrishna Yadav called for proactive government action against rising corruption, crime, and price hikes.
