Govt to target unauthorized casinos under money laundering act

KATHMANDU: The government has expanded the scope of the Money Laundering Prevention Act to include unfair transactions, match-fixing in sports, and operating casinos without proper authorization.

Government spokesperson Prithvi Subba Gurung announced on Thursday that the Council of Ministers, during a meeting held today, decided to categorize these activities as offenses under the act.

Additionally, human trafficking, the use of virtual currencies, and hundi (illegal money transfers) have also been brought under its purview.

An ordinance to formally amend related provisions will be recommended to the President for approval.
