Federal Parliament Forms 41 parliamentary friendship groups

KATHMANDU: The Federal Parliament has established 41 parliamentary friendship groups to strengthen international ties.

During a joint meeting of these groups held at Singha Durbar on Thursday, Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire announced the names of the MPs assigned to these groups, which represent 41 different countries.

However, Speaker Ghimire noted that the coordinators for three of the parliamentary friendship groups are still to be appointed.

He urged the appointed coordinators to actively work towards enhancing parliamentary relations with their respective countries.

Acknowledging delays in forming the groups, Speaker Ghimire stressed the importance of moving forward with these groups’ agendas. He also mentioned that working procedures for the groups will be established and organized in the near future.

Ghimire pointed out the challenge of organizing the groups without a secretary, given that the 16 parliamentary groups of the Federal Parliament have yet to be formally organized.

Some of the appointed coordinators include Congress MP Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat for the Nepal-US Parliamentary Friendship Group, Gagan Kumar Thapa for Australia, Bishwa Prakash Sharma for France, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha for Britain, Raghuji Pant for Russia, and Narayan Kaji Shrestha for China.
