UML suspends Lumbini Provincial Assembly member Durga Chaudhary

KATHMANDU: The CPN (UML) District Committee of Banke has suspended Lumbini Provincial Assembly member Durga Chaudhary from the party.

Chaudhary was accused of defaming party chair KP Sharma Oli and General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, prompting the UML to relieve him of all party responsibilities.

In an official letter, UML Banke Chair Nirak Gurung informed Chaudhary of his suspension, citing actions that harmed the party’s reputation.

The party accused Chaudhary of engaging in activities such as publicly insulting the leadership, writing defamatory posts on social media, undermining party members, and promoting anti-party narratives in the media.

Although the UML had sought an explanation from Chaudhary, he reportedly responded with a written statement criticizing the leadership, members, and the party itself instead of acknowledging any shortcomings.

Chaudhary, who represents Banke Constituency 1 (B) in the Lumbini Provincial Assembly, was elected in 2022.
