SC defers hearing on Lamichhane case

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court on Tuesday deferred the hearing on a writ petition filed against the Attorney General’s decision to withdraw charges of organized crime and money laundering against Rabi Lamichhane, chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).

The case has been placed under hearing in progress after the proceedings could not be concluded on Tuesday.

According to Supreme Court spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala, the joint bench of Justices Binod Sharma and Abdul Aziz Musalman could not complete the hearing and has scheduled it to continue on Wednesday.

Earlier, a joint bench of Justices Saranga Subedi and Sunil Kumar Pokharel had, on March 19, ordered the Attorney General’s Office to present the revised decision to withdraw the charges of money laundering and organized crime against Lamichhane.

Prior to that, a joint bench of Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Shrikanta Paudel had directed on March 1 that the petition be listed for regular hearing.

The writ challenges the legality of the Attorney General’s revised decision to withdraw the cases against Lamichhane.
