KATHMANDU: The Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, announced the government’s commitment to providing electricity access to all households in Nepal within the next two years.
Speaking at the 20th-anniversary celebration of the National Association of Community Electricity Users-Nepal (NACEUN), Minister Khadka highlighted that electrification has already reached 98% of the country, with plans to complete the remaining areas soon.
Minister Khadka emphasized the importance of private sector cooperation in achieving the government’s energy sector development goals.
He expressed his commitment to resolving the private sector’s challenges and stated that his close monitoring of the power sector would facilitate progress.
He also called for innovative and consolidated efforts from the Federation to advance the work of the Community Electricity Users’ Committee.
Chairperson of the Electricity Regulatory Commission, Dr. Ram Prasad Dhital, commended the Federation’s efforts in providing quality electricity to rural areas and preventing power leakage.
Founded 19 years ago in 2062 BS, the Federation has been actively involved in community electrification projects across Nepal.
It operates through 302 community rural electric entities in 55 districts, has collected Rs 1.8 billion from community contributions for the government, and has provided employment to 3,500 people.
