KHAJURA: Residents of Nepalgunj are grappling with a severe heatwave, causing distress and health issues among the populace.

The scorching temperatures, exacerbated by the heatwave, have been particularly intense from midday until 5:00 pm over the past few days.

The field office of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology in Nepalgunj has reported a significant increase in maximum temperatures recently, according to the Weather Forecasting Division.

Predictions suggest that the heatwave is expected to persist for another five days in Nepalgunj and its surrounding areas. As a precautionary measure, the division has urged residents to take necessary precautions.

The soaring temperatures have led to various health issues among the population, including fatigue, weakness, thirst, headaches, leg cramps, dizziness, muscle pain, and nausea.

Dr. Paras Shrestha, a physician at Bheri Hospital, advises everyone to remain indoors, avoid outdoor activities, wear lightweight cotton clothing, use caps when venturing outside, increase fluid intake, and seek medical assistance if experiencing severe symptoms.

The adverse effects of the heatwave are particularly harsh on daily wage earners, such as rickshaw pullers, who are significantly impacted by the extreme weather conditions.

Nanda Lal Baisya, former chair of the Nepalgunj Chamber of Commerce, highlights the economic toll on these vulnerable workers.

Moreover, public offices are experiencing a decline in visitors due to the extreme weather, while Bheri Hospital has observed a rise in the number of patients seeking medical attention.
