Prime Minister Dahal pledges collaboration with private sector for economic reforms

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has declared the government’s commitment to prioritizing actions based on suggestions from the private sector for economic reforms in the country.

Representatives from Nepal’s private sector, including Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI), Rajesh Kumar Agrawal, President of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries, and Rajendra Malla, President of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce, held a meeting with the Prime Minister on Sunday to discuss these crucial economic issues.

According to FNCCI sources, Prime Minister Dahal expressed his deep concern about the current state of the economy and assured the private sector representatives that the government is actively working towards improvement.

He highlighted the government’s efforts to foster a conducive business environment in the country.

The leaders from the private sector pressed for the government’s unwavering commitment to addressing their concerns and urged for greater inclusivity of the private sector in policy-making.

They stressed the imperative to eliminate obstacles and involve the private sector in the decision-making process for meaningful reform.

FNCCI President Dhakal voiced concerns during the meeting, stating, “Low demand, negative perspectives towards the private sector, and restricted operational freedom have posed challenges. The government must be resolute in addressing these issues.”

He further urged the government to revoke provisions that grant authorities, such as the Anti-Money Laundering Department, the power to scrutinize the private sector without valid reasons.

Sources indicate that the Prime Minister pledged to consult with private sector stakeholders when making decisions related to their concerns, emphasizing a collaborative approach to addressing economic challenges.
