Bir Hospital, NAMS to be separate entities after seven years

KATHMANDU: It has been agreed to segregate the Bir Hospital and Nepal Academy of Health Sciences (NAMS) after seven years.

In a meeting of the Law, Justice and Human Rights Commission, House of Representatives (HoR) today, the agreement reached to separate the two entities in the future.

The meeting took place at the Singha Durbar over the Bill to amend some of Nepal’s acts has endorsed some provisions including about the National Academy of Medical Sciences, 2063 (2006).

Committee President Bimala Subedi said the meeting entertained the provision mentioned in Clause-44 of the Bill to disintegrate the Bir Hospital and NAMS after years.

Committee members Mahesh Bartaula, Ranju Kumari Jha, Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan and Ram Kumar Rai were of the view that there should be one central hospital under the subordination of the government and the Bir Hospital should be put under the government’s ownership.

During the meeting, Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paudel, said the government is working on a draft to amend the Drugs Act-2035 BS and some practical challenges have been encountered to carry out work until the amendment is ensured.

Deliberations were also held in the meeting regarding the Clause-12 of the Act.

The Clause is about the manufacturing of drugs, the term of license, recommendation letter and the certificates and the renewal issue.
