Rabi Lamichhane suspended from State Affairs and Good Governance Committee
Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has been suspended from his role as a member of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee following his earlier suspension as a federal parliamentarian.
The decision was announced on Tuesday during a meeting at Singha Durbar, where committee chairperson Ramhari Khatiwada stated that Lamichhane’s suspension was a result of ongoing legal proceedings against him.
After being suspended from his parliamentary seat, Lamichhane is reportedly preparing to file a writ petition in the Supreme Court to contest his suspension. The suspension follows charges of cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering, with the case registered in the Kaski District Court.
MP Pokharel sends letter to ‘absconding’ wife’s school seeking leave
Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman Rishikesh Pokharel has written to a school seeking an extension of leave for his wife, Anjala Koirala, who is reportedly absconding in connection with a cooperative fraud case.
Pokharel sent a virtual letter to Mahendra Night Secondary School in Biratnagar on Sunday, requesting indefinite leave on behalf of his wife.
Anjala Koirala, a permanent teacher at the school, was last seen attending classes on December 12.
Public debt reaches Rs 2.49 trillion, outpaces development spending
Nepal’s public debt has soared to Rs 2.49 trillion, creating immense financial strain as the cost of servicing this debt now surpasses the country’s development budget.
A report from the Public Debt Management Office for the first five months of the current fiscal year 2024-25 shows the growing burden of debt obligations, which continues to escalate with each passing year.
At the end of Mangsir (December 15), the total public debt reached Rs 2.49 trillion, which constitutes 43.69 percent of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This reflects an increase of Rs 58.31 billion since the fiscal year began.
Breakthrough achieved in all three bypass tunnels of Siddhababa Tunnel Project
A breakthrough has been achieved in all three bypass tunnels of the much-anticipated Siddhababa Tunnel located at Dobhan, Tinau Rural Municipality-3, Palpa.
The construction of this tunnel, listed as a national pride project and given high priority by the government, has gained significant momentum over the past year.
According to the project office, the breakthrough for Bypass Tunnel 3 was completed on Bhadra 26, followed by Bypass Tunnel 1 on Asoj 4.
