KATHMANDU: The Food Technology and Quality Control Office in Nepalgunj has filed cases against three industries in Banke this year.

The cases, lodged at the District Administration Office, accuse the industries of violating the Food Hygiene and Quality Standards Act.

The Dew Drip Drinking Water Industry, located in Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City–15, was found operating against the Drinking Water Production Standards Directive, 2017, during an inspection.

The industry failed to conduct regular water quality tests and maintained unsanitary conditions in its premises. Consequently, a case was filed seeking a compensation of Rs 450,000, according to Prashant Pokharel, chief of the Food Technology and Quality Control Office.

Pokharel said that complaints had been filed against the industry, and irregularities were confirmed during monitoring, prompting legal action. Similarly, a case was lodged last month against the YK Drinking Water Industry for similar violations.

Another case was filed on November 10 against the Quality Chowmein Industry in Nepalgunj–18 after it was found selling noodles without proper labeling, a violation of the Food Act, 1967.

The inspection in Banke and Bardiya districts uncovered several irregularities, including food adulteration, operation of businesses without permits, and the sale of packaged food products without labels.

Businesses engaging in such practices have been warned, the office reported.

“We have about 10 more files under investigation,” Pokharel added, warning that industries found violating regulations during inspections will face legal action.

He said repeated violations will not be tolerated and will lead to stricter penalties.

These cases were filed in the ongoing fiscal year.
