Lumbini CM pledges support for promoting and preserving fine arts in the province



KATHMANDU: Lumbini Province’s Chief Minister, Chet Narayan Acharya, said the provincial government is ready to collaborate and move forward in the study, preservation, and development of fine arts in the region.

During a discussion held on Tuesday morning with Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) Chancellor Narad Mani Hartamchali, Member Secretary Devendra Thumkeli, and other representatives, the Chief Minister said his government was committed to preserving the province’s arts, culture, literature, skills, knowledge, and heritage.

Acharya also revealed plans to advance a bill for the establishment of a Provincial Academy of Fine Arts.

Chancellor Hartamchali urged the government to prioritize the study and research of fine arts in the province. He stressed the need for creating and showcasing artwork, as well as for conducting in-depth research and exploration into various forms of art.

During the meeting, Devendra Thumkeli, Member Secretary of NAFA, shared information about the initiative to establish Dang’s Gadwa area as a ceramics hub.

The project aims to turn Gadwa into the country’s ceramics center, with the potential to introduce locally-made pottery to international markets, projecting an annual trade volume of Rs 100 to 150 million.

Thumkeli also mentioned the ongoing efforts to organize regional fine arts exhibitions in the province.
