Govt issues travel advisory for Nepalis travelling to countries including Thailand, Cambodia

KATHMANDU: The government has issued a three-point travel advisory for Nepali citizens planning to travel to Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos.

In a statement released on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged citizens to take precautions, particularly those seeking foreign employment in these countries.

The ministry highlighted reports of human trafficking and criminal activities targeting Nepali nationals, lured by promises of attractive salaries.

According to the ministry, Nepali workers have faced serious issues, including passport confiscation, excessively long work hours (12–13 hours per day), physical abuse, and non-payment of wages.

The advisory emphasized that engaging in such illegal activities is punishable under the law.

“Nepali nationals are advised not to travel on visit visas for foreign employment and to gather adequate information about foreign firms, companies, and employers through the concerned Nepali missions abroad,” the statement read.

Additionally, the ministry urged individuals to personally verify the legitimacy of foreign firms, companies, and employers by checking their websites before accepting employment offers.
