KATHMANDU: The government has started the process of providing services at hospitals operated by the Nepali Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police to the general public.

The Ministry of Health and Population has formed a task force led by Additional Secretary Dr Tanka Barakoti to prepare necessary procedures for this initiative.

The task force has been tasked with drafting guidelines for offering services to citizens and submitting a feasibility report for implementation.

A Cabinet meeting on May 18, 2017, had decided to open health services operated by the Nepal Police and Nepali Army to the public. The Ministry of Health was assigned to coordinate with the relevant ministries to create a framework and guidelines for providing these services.

Health Minister Pradeep Paudel directed the task force to study the operation of hospitals run by the Armed Police Force. The task force will consult experts and stakeholders to finalize the guidelines.

The task force includes representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, and officials from the Army, Police, and Armed Police hospitals, along with ministry officials.

Ministry spokesperson Prakash Budhathoki stated that this initiative aims to make health services from government-owned security institutions accessible to the general public.
