World Bank to support employment generation

KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel, who is in Washington DC for the annual meetings of the World Bank Group (WBG) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), met with WBG’s Vice President for South Asia, Martin Raiser, on Wednesday.

According to the Nepali Embassy, the discussion centered on generating employment opportunities in Nepal.

Topics included improving the business environment, implementing major infrastructure projects, and utilizing remittance inflows to create jobs.

Additionally, the WBG has committed to supporting Nepal’s post-disaster reconstruction efforts.

An agreement to this effect was signed by the Government of Nepal and the World Bank.

Finance Secretary Ram Prasad Ghimire and the World Bank’s representative for Nepal, David Sislen, signed the agreement.

Under the terms of the agreement, the World Bank will provide Nepal with assistance amounting to $150 million.

During the signing ceremony, it was stated that these funds would be mobilized to address health issues arising from natural disasters and climate change in Nepal.

The agreement was signed in the presence of DPM and Finance Minister Poudel and WBG’s Vice President for South Asia, Martin Raiser.
