DPM Singh urges collective efforts to save and clean Bagmati river

LALITPUR: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development, Prakashman Singh, has called for collective efforts to preserve and clean the Bagmati River, which he described as a symbol of national pride.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the “Grand Water Expedition (Maha Jal Yatra)” in Lalitpur today, jointly organized by the Nepal River Conservation Trust and Friends Club Kupandole, DPM Singh emphasized the need for sustainable solutions to address the impacts of rapid urbanization on the Bagmati River.

“While the Bagmati River flows smoothly during the rainy season, it becomes severely polluted and emits a foul odor during the dry season. The government is making efforts to address these issues,” Singh stated.

He also expressed satisfaction with the active involvement of social workers and activists in the ongoing efforts to clean and protect the Bagmati River and its heritage.

“The Ministry of Urban Development is eager to collaborate with all organizations and activists dedicated to preserving the Bagmati civilization and maintaining the cleanliness of the river,” DPM Singh added.

As part of the 24th edition of the Bagmati River Festival (21st Century Festival) Grand Water Expedition, various programs such as friendly water tours and Bagmati Sambad were organized along the Bagmati corridor.
