Parliament staffs end strike following seven-point agreement

KATHMANDU: The strike by the staff of the Federal Parliament Secretariat has ended following a seven-point agreement on Monday.

The staff had been striking, demanding increases in salaries, additional allowances, and other benefits, which had significantly disrupted parliamentary activities.

The agreement was signed by Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Padam Giri, General Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat Padma Prasad Pandey, and Chairman of the Employees Union Govinda Prasad Belbase, among others.

The staff had been protesting with an eleven-point list of demands.

The government of Nepal has shown a positive response to these demands and has agreed to address them progressively.

As per the agreement, the housing allowance for gazetted employees will be revised by Rs 3,500 per month and for non-gazetted employees by Rs 3,000 per month.

Furthermore, the Federal Parliament Secretariat Employee Administration Regulations, 2065, Schedule-12 will be reviewed and revised within a maximum of three years.
