KATHMANDU: Engineer Navinkumar Pokharel, convicted in the corruption scam of the Security Printing Press (SPP), has been found dead under mysterious circumstances.
Just three days ago, he was declared guilty in the Special Court for his involvement in the case.
Pokharel, convicted together with then Director General of SPP Bikal Paudel, was discovered dead at his own Bhaktapur based residence at around 9 am on Friday morning.
The special court had sentenced Pokharel to six months in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 58,455,159 along with confiscating an equivalent amount of assets.
Pokharel, aged 57, was serving as an undersecretary at the Ministry of Forests and Environment before getting suspended on corruption allegation last year.
According to the police, a suicide note was found at the scene, leading to initial speculation of Pokharel’s suicide.
Police are investigating for details.
