KATHMANDU: After a hiatus spanning over two-and-a-half years, Thai Airways, Thailand’s premier flag carrier, has decided to reinstate its services in Nepal.

The airline recommenced its route from Bangkok to Kathmandu via Calcutta, which was suspended to the Coronavirus pandemic.

This journey of Thai Airways, bridging Nepal with global destinations and facilitating inbound traffic to the Nepalese market, was interrupted in March 2022 amid the Coronavirus pandemic.

However, Thai Airways resumed operations on 29 October 2023, appointing Society International Travel Services as its General Sales Agent (GSA) for Nepal.

Currently, Thai Airways operates Airbus 320 narrow-body aircraft in Nepal, with plans for expansion evident as it initiated a second daily flight on 15 December 2023, driven by an encouraging response within a short span after the resumption of flights in Nepal.

Thai Airways, since its inception in Nepal, has been instrumental in promoting cultural exchange and economic growth.

Presently, the airline operates a diverse fleet comprising Airbus 320 narrow-body aircraft, 777s, Dreamliner 787s, and Airbus 350s across more than 60 destinations worldwide, boasting a fleet strength of 73 aircraft.
