KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Balendra Shah (Balen) is holding briefings with the chiefs of Nepal’s security agencies to address the crisis caused by the Bhotekoshi flood.
Prime Minister Shah has been in discussions since Monday morning. Earlier, he received a briefing from Chief of Army Staff of the Nepal Army, Ashok Raj Sigdel.
According to the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, Sigdel briefed Shah on the search, rescue, relief and disaster-management efforts carried out so far.
Shah is next scheduled to receive a briefing from Inspector General of the Armed Police Force, Nepal, Narayan Dutta Poudel. Preparations are also underway for a subsequent briefing with Inspector General of Nepal Police, Dan Bahadur Karki, the Prime Minister’s Secretariat said.
The flood that struck the Bhotekoshi River on the morning of August 26 has caused significant loss of life and property. According to the latest figures, 903 people have died in the disaster, while 4,247 people remain unaccounted for.
