Prime Minister Dahal advocates for developing Nepal as medical education hub

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has emphasized the importance of addressing emerging challenges in the health sector while striving to develop Nepal into a hub of medical education.

During his speech at the first convocation ceremony of the Patan Academy of Health Sciences, PM Dahal urged relevant agencies to prioritize the resolution of issues plaguing the health sector.

He stressed the need for the academy to enhance infrastructure to effectively manage any challenges that may arise, emphasizing the improvement of hospital services’ quality and efficacy.

Furthermore, PM Dahal underscored the necessity of producing skilled and socially responsible doctors to ensure quality healthcare in rural areas.

He highlighted the significance of expanding access to healthcare services in rural regions, citing the COVID-19 pandemic as a reminder of the importance of efficient public health institutions for universal healthcare provision.

The government, PM Dahal asserted, has prioritized enhancing the capacity of all public hospitals, urging the academy to play a proactive role in providing specialized healthcare services and identifying factors influencing public health in communities.

Commending the academy’s recent initiatives such as the introduction of health insurance and community-based service delivery in collaboration with local governments, PM Dahal emphasized the need for establishing an integrated institute of health sciences and eliminating duplication in medical education and health services management.

He concluded by affirming the government’s commitment to laying the groundwork for Nepal’s development as a medical education hub, stressing the enhancement of health institutions’ capacity to deliver basic and quality healthcare services to all citizens.
