PM Dahal announces fiscal handover of projects worth less than Rs 30 million to provinces and local levels

Prime Minister and Parliamentary Party leader of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, declared that projects worth less than Rs 30 million would be delegated to provincial and local governments, emphasizing fiscal decentralization to fortify federalism. Speaking at the CPN (Maoist Centre) parliamentary party meeting held at Singha Durbar this morning, PM Dahal highlighted the government’s strategy to transfer authority for project selection to provincial and local levels. “The federal government will oversee projects with strategic significance, while those valued at less than Rs 30 million will be managed by provinces and local governments,” he stated.

Rabi Lamichhane, the Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has stated that the growing enthusiasm among the public for his party is unsettling major political parties. During an event held in Kapilvastu on Saturday, Lamichhane asserted that the increasing popularity of RSP is causing consternation among major political players, including the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and CPN-Maoist Center. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has declared that a special allocation will be made for the Madhes region in the upcoming fiscal year’s policy, program, and budget. During the foundation stone laying ceremony for a bridge connecting Sabaila Municipality-4 of Dhanusha to Kalyanpur Municipality-5 of Siraha, Prime Minister Dahal reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting agricultural technology, enhancing irrigation facilities, and providing chemical fertilizers and seeds in the Tarai region.
The PM’s Secretariat reported that the government is earnestly striving to achieve self-sufficiency in food production.

Police make public woman arrested for abduction of infant from Paropakar Hospital

The police have publicly announced the arrest of a woman accused of kidnapping a 26-day-old baby from the Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital on Friday. Man Kumari Singh, 24, originally from Namune Rural Municipality-1 and currently residing in Kandaghari, Kathmandu, was apprehended for allegedly stealing the baby from the hospital, as stated by DSP and spokesperson of District Police Range, Kathmandu, Navraj Adhikari. Following the rescue operation, the baby was returned to the family and is currently receiving medical treatment at Kathmandu Medical College.

RPP lawmaker Yadav suspended amid corruption case

Janaki Prasad Yadav, a lawmaker representing the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) in Lumbini Province, has been suspended following allegations of corruption. The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) recently brought corruption charges against Yadav and 18 others. Yadav, who was elected to the Lumbini Provincial Assembly from Kapilvastu constituency 3 (2), faces accusations of involvement in corruption and unauthorized deforestation activities. The case specifically pertains to the unauthorized felling of trees, exceeding the limits set by official permission.

KMC cracks down on plastic bouquet and flower usage

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has issued a stern warning, announcing strict measures against the use of plastic bouquets and flowers. Since July 17 last year, the KMC has enforced a ban on the production, sale, distribution, storage, and usage of plastic bouquets and flowers, as well as plastic bags with a thickness below 40 microns. The warning comes in response to numerous complaints indicating that party venues continue to clandestinely employ plastic bouquets and flowers despite the ban. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rajunath Pandey of the Metropolitan Police Force stated that surprise inspections will be conducted at these venues, and any violations of the new regulation will be met with immediate action.

NTA seeks clarification from internet service providers flexible for TikTok operation

The Nepal Telecommunication Authority (NTA) has sought clarification from the internet service providers regarding the ongoing operation of TikTok, citing concerns over activities that incite social discord. Despite the fact that the government imposed a ban on TikTok following activities that could potentially lead to social unrest, some service providers reopened access to the platform. In response, the NTA has sought clarification from these providers, emphasizing the need for compliance with the directives issued by the government.
