7-member panel formed to resolve KU-Dhulikhel Hospital row

KATHMANDU: The 98th meeting of the Kathmandu University (KU) Assembly has formed a seven-member facilitation committee under the leadership of National Planning Commission Member, Geeta Kumari Paudyal, to prepare a proposal to resolve problems between the KU and Dhulikhel Hospital.

The meeting held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers under chairmanship of Chancellor of KU and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Monday gave authority to the committee to submit the proposal in the Senate Meeting scheduled for January 17 by doing necessary homework and holding discussions with bodies concerned.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Bhola Thapa, Dean of School of Medical Sciences Prof Dr Manoj Humagain, Dean of School of Law Dr Rishikesh Wagle on behalf of KU and Executive Director, Dr Ramkantha Makaju Shrestha, Administrative Director Dr Biraj Man Karmacharya and Research Director, Prof Dr Rajeev Shrestha, on behalf of Dhulikhel Hospital are in the committee.

KU Chancellor and PM Oli on the 97th Senate meeting held on August 14 had proposed to seek solution through dialogue after misunderstanding took place between the two institutions.

Meanwhile, discussion was held about the various aspects of initiatives and solutions taken to bring both sides for dialogue and form consensus under coordination of Minister for Education, Science and Technology and KU Pro-Chancellor, Bidhya Bhattarai.

Dispute arose after the hospital expressed dissatisfaction citing the University unilaterally took the decision against financial and employee regulations.

Similarly, today’s meeting decided to correct ‘grace list’ after name of seven students, who could not pass, was included in the grace list of recent convocation of the university.

KU Registrar Dr Achyut Prasad Wagle informed the meeting that investigation regarding the issue was underway and those students have not received certificate.
