Jumla district declared fully literate

JUMLA: All eight local levels in Jumla district have been declared fully literate.

One municipality and seven local levels were declared fully literate at once after these local levels fulfilled a majority of the literacy indicators of the total 12 indicators, said Gaurinanda Acharya, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Jumla.

Hima rural municipality was first declared fully literate rural municipality in the district on September 6 this year.

According to the statistics published by the Committee, Kanak Sundari rural municipality achieved 97 per cent literacy rate followed by Sinja rural municipality at 96.5 per cent, according to the District Coordination Committee.

Likewise, Tatopani rural municipality recorded 95.77 per cent literacy rate, Guthichaur rural municipality 95.73 per cent, Hima rural municipality 95.72 per cent and Patarashi rural municipality 95.24 per cent, said the Committee.

Chandannath municipality has the highest literacy rate- 98.91 per cent- while Tila rural municipality having the lowest- 95.4 per cent.

Of the 12 indicators, those fulfilling at least six were declared literate, divulged Acharya.

The literacy rate was determined on the basis of various factors such as ability to read and write in native language or mother language, ability to read prices and bill, ability to understand and use mobile and calculator’s digits and features, having knowledge of basic alphabets and letters among others, according to Motilal Rokaya, Chairperson of Tila rural municipality.
