Despite demolishing over seven thousand Chhau sheds, evil practice continues: Dr. Arzu Rana

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress lawmaker Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba, has called for a campaign to spread public awareness, stating that despite the demolition of seven thousand five hundred and forty-five Chhaugoth (Chhau shed), the evil practice persists.

Speaking at the House of Representatives session on Sunday, she highlighted that seven thousand five hundred and forty-five Chhau sheds were demolished between 2018 and 2021.

“About eight years ago, I spoke about a girl who was bitten by a snake and died in a Chhau shed. On June 17, a girl was raped in a Chhau shed in Achham. Such incidents continue to occur in the country,” she said, adding, “Even though the government has demolished seven thousand five hundred and forty-five Chhau sheds in three years, this harmful practice continues. I urge the government to launch a widespread public awareness campaign against it.”
