Prohibition order extended for two months in key areas of Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Administration Office (DAO) has extended the prohibition order in various parts of the capital for another two months.

The order, issued by Chief District Officer (CDO) Rishiram Tiwari last Friday, came into effect on Sunday—the same day pro-monarchy supporters held a demonstration.

While the notice has been uploaded to the DAO’s official website, it was not posted on the administration’s Facebook page, where the last update dates back to February 23.

However, former secretary Bhim Upadhyay and other pro-monarchy supporters have been widely sharing it online since Monday.

Assistant CDO Anil Paudel clarified that this is not a new decision but a continuation of the routine extension of the prohibition order.

“This is a regular practice that takes place every two months based on security concerns,” Paudel told Khabarhub.

The order prohibits gatherings and protests in areas surrounding the President and Vice President’s offices, Singha Durbar, the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar, and the Parliament building. These locations were already under a prohibition order, and the extension only maintains the existing restrictions.

According to the notice, gatherings of more than five people, slogans, demonstrations, sit-ins, and processions are not allowed in these areas for the next two months.

The DAO stated that these restrictions are necessary to prevent disruptions to essential services, public transportation, government operations, and overall security.
