DPM Shrestha gathers input from officials ahead of productive China visit

KATHMANDU, March 23: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, engaged in consultations with top officials from various ministries today to ensure his upcoming visit to China yields fruitful outcomes.

At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, DPM Shrestha received updates on the status of implementing agreements signed with China and sought suggestions from attendees on key areas of focus for discussions with Chinese counterparts.

Participants recommended that DPM Shrestha prioritize topics such as energy, trade, tourism, connectivity, agriculture, technology transfer, and border management during his visit to China.

Scheduled from March 24 to April 1, DPM Shrestha’s official visit to the People’s Republic of China comes at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

During his visit, DPM Shrestha will hold bilateral talks with Foreign Minister Wang on March 26 and meet with high-level dignitaries across Beijing and other provinces.

In the consultative meeting, DPM Shrestha emphasized that his visit aims to strengthen bilateral ties and enhance mutual cooperation between Nepal and China.

“My upcoming visit to China seeks to further solidify the relationship between our two nations and deepen mutual cooperation. We will discuss the progress of agreements reached with China and explore avenues for further collaboration,” stated DPM Shrestha.

The discussions were attended by National Security Advisor Shanker Das Bairagi, Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, and other high-ranking officials from ministries including Finance, Defence, Energy, and Irrigation.
