KATHMANDU: The newly constructed Belybridge in Khurkot, which connects Sindhuli and Ramechhap districts, has officially reopened for traffic from Tuesday, following its inauguration by Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal.
The bridge was washed away during devastating floods that occurred on September 27 and 28, which also affected the Khurkot Bridge linking Khurkot in Golanjor Rural Municipality of Sindhuli to Seleghat in Manthali Municipality of Ramechhap. In the wake of the disaster, the Nepali Army stepped in to build the Belybridge, using a Modular Panel Bridge (MPB) to restore connectivity between the two districts.
The bridge was built by the Nepali Army in three weeks, allowing for renewed access across the Sunkoshi River. However, initial traffic operations were delayed due to steep slopes at the bridge’s entrance.
Following further adjustments to the approach, the Belybridge is now fully operational, restoring vital road access to the region after the flood severely disrupted transportation routes.
