Foreign Minister meets UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva



GENEVA: Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana met with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk in Geneva on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Rana highlighted Nepal’s role as an exemplary nation in safeguarding and promoting human rights despite limited resources.

She emphasized that Nepal’s Constitution guarantees civil liberties along with political, economic, social, and cultural rights as fundamental rights.

Rana reaffirmed Nepal’s commitment to democratic values, the rule of law, and judicial independence.

She also discussed Nepal’s progress in formulating transitional justice laws to address unresolved issues from the peace process, expressing her commitment to concluding the transitional justice process soon.

The meeting was attended by Krishna Prasad Dhakal, Chief of the United Nations Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ram Prasad Subedi, Nepal’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, and Rajendra Thapa, Chief of the Human Rights and International Treaties Division of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
